There was no (or relatively imperceptible) algae then, and the water was either crystal clear or translucent turquoise blue--maybe only a hint of green, and certainly nothing like the colors seen here. According to Bob Knight, head of the Howard T. Odum Florida Springs Institute, we now have over 900 springs--the largest number of freshwater springs IN THE WORLD, and we are letting them die. This is a tragedy that SHOULD NOT HAPPEN.
