The Orange County School Board voted last night to close 6 elementary schools in light of the state budget crisis, including
Kaley Elementary. Kaley, the WPA created school in my neck of the woods, also features an audiology department; I'm not sure what will happen to that. I heard a report on the news that parks would be created at the school sites and the schoolboard would consider building new schools on the locations of the old schools, should conditions change. The Orlando Preservation Board named the school a historical site in 1995, let's hope that they don't tear it down. I will be monitoring very carefully to see what the School Board's plans are for this unique building...
I can't believe they would do something like this.. This is the very first school I attend for my disability. That's sad.. I really hope they don't tear it down!
ReplyDeleteLatest I've heard is that the school board may be backing off their plans to close the elementary schools. We should find out later this month.
