Charles Hotel, Miami Beach

From my vintage postcard archives comes this scene of senior citizens, living the high life in Miami Beach. Note the great neon sign on the top half and the wonderful mid-century furniture on the bottom half.

  3. I really love the designs of the lobby. I wish I have a lot of money so that I can spend my vacation there. Anyway, I saw a site about cheap hotel miami that you can visit here if you have time.

  4. Spent 2 weeks every year at this hotel as a child. Anyone know what is there now?

    1. Hi can you tell me the address of this hotel that you lived in? I work for the Miami Design Preservation League. Was it in South Beach? Thanks Merle

    2. I lived in the Charles hotel, too. In the mid 80s for about a year. It was located at 1475 Collins Ave. Was sorry to see it was demolished.

  7. I was just now looking through this website. I love it so much and miss it so much and it was my phone. Even though I am from Oklahoma. I will never forget it! I worked there

  8. A great big empty lot. This building fell into disrepair many years ago and was purchased by CVS which promptly demolished it (early 2000's). They did not have the proper demolition permit and are not supposed to be able to build on it (although they have submitted proposals to do just that).

  9. I lived at the Charles. It was after my grandmother died and my grandfather and I moved to the Charles. When we would come to MB for winter vacation we always stayed there.
If you sT on the porch in the evening, someone you knew would always pass by. You had Hoffman Cafeteria across the street and of cause Benson Drugs on the opposite side.

Don't forget Lums, almost next to the Charles. Sadly I passed by the corner of Collins and 14th st. The hotel is gone, but not my memories.

  10. Went there at least once/year in the 60s. It was owned by the Leshner family back then. Some people I remember are Mrs Sunshine, Myrtle ?, a young bell hop, and other faces. I was just a kid.
